Marianne Cara, John Doherty, Guy Gilmour, Geoff Harvey, Ted Hillyer, MaxLieberman, Ishbel Morag M Miller, Ian Pearson, Jeff Rigby, Bryan Westwoodand Maryanne Wick.
Eleven artists have been assembled at the Robin Gibson Gallery under thebanner of Suburbia. This curious collection of painted images, which includeMarianne Cara¹s The Christening Day, Backyard Australia and Ted Hillyer¹sEdge of a Coastal Town, raises the question of where does suburbia begin andfinish.
The artists have presented images from every direction north, south, eastand west of the Sydney GPO. We see the extraordinary in the ordinary, whether it be Morag Miller¹s explorations of Glebe¹s Foley Park or BryanWestwood¹s Centennial Park at sunset. There is a woman prostrate in the bathof Guy Gilmour¹s painting of the idyllic suburban bathroom and a series ofexquisite pencil drawings by expatriate Maryanne Wick, which capture thepedestrian activity of a Korean neighbourhood.
