"It is my deepest hope that audiences will take away whatever they might need to feel better, get in touch with their emotions and heal their hearts." David Friedman
TAA Entertainment is proud to present the Australian Premiere of New York composer David Friedmans Listen To My Heart - an intimate musical revue featuring five of Australias finest singers including Margi de Ferranti, Tony Farrell, Tyran Parke, Saskia Smith and Kaye Tuckerman performing 27 of Friedmans most beautiful songs.
Listen to My Heart is a lifetime dream come true for Friedman. The show was developed in 2001 at the Lyric Stage in Dallas and then presented in 2003 at Studio 54, New York. It has subsequently had productions in Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Tulsa, London, Baltimore, Washington DC, Buffalo and Dallas.
Using only songs and no dialogue Listen to My Heart shares the idea that there are voices inside our head and our heart that tell us what to do, and guide us, if we will only listen to them. As Friedman says "Of all the things I've done, from conducting on Broadway to music directing, vocal arranging and scoring films, producing albums and working with singers, the thing that has always been dearest to my heart is writing songs. I dont feel that I write them, but rather they write themselves, bringing me information, inspiration and healing when I most need it. All I do is open myself up to whatever comes, take it down, use it as I need it and pass it on to the world."
American critics are full of praise for David Friedmans work:
"A deft and unpretentious production.....conveys an uncomplicated and powerful emotion with clarity and simplicity, unclouded by sentimentality. There isnt a discordant note in the show." The New York Times
"...the cabaret event of the season giving Friedman his due as one of the countrys pre-eminent songwriters. Aspiring singers and songwriters shouldnt dream of missing it" Show Business
