FULL DAY WORKSHOPS TO RETURN IN WINTER SEASONAL PROGRAM AT POWERHOUSE MUSEUM

A program of exhibitions, events and creative workshops for the whole family will take place across Powerhouse Museum Ultimo, Sydney Observatory, Museums Discovery Centre and Parramatta throughout the Winter School Holiday period (26 June − 11 July).

Rosie Deacon's Koala Train will find a new home at the Museums Discovery Centre from 26 June until 11 July. At an accompanying Koala Sculpture Workshop, children will be able to use recycled fabrics and yarn to create their own textile koalas to take home (26 June).

Presented in conjunction with TAFE NSW and held in Parramatta, Creative Studio is a five-day workshop in which Western Sydney high school students will work alongside designer and art director Anna Fraser to learn the secrets of Hollywood-style visual storytelling (28 June − 2 July). Fraser has worked on major films such as Iron Man 3 (2013), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) and Allegiant (2016), and is known for creating beautiful imagery to tell complex stories.

Free STEM workshops for ages 8−12 will be held at the Powerhouse Community Space in Parramatta Square. Taking place each Saturday, the workshops are bookable on arrival and run for 45 minutes. Children will learn about engineering and aerodynamics, create an articulated robot hand with artist Tully Arnot or take part in a digital animation workshop with visual artist Gillian Kayrooz

At Powerhouse Ultimo, the Winter Seasonal program will also see the return of full day Coding, Robotics and Minecraft workshops.

In Museum Minecraft, young participants will be guided through Minecraft activities and games before going back in time to the Museum's origins in 1879 and launching into 'creative mode' to build their own museum treasure (29, 30 June, 1 July).

Coding and Robotics will cater to budding tech aficionados, with an introduction to the basics of coding and robotics through a series of fun activities, technologies and games. Participants will have the unique opportunity to meet some of the robots that live at the Museum − including learning to drive a replica of the Mars Rover, Perseverance (5, 7, 9 July).

Two new exhibitions will also open at Powerhouse Ultimo during the holidays: Eucalyptusdom opening on 1 July will reckon with our cultural history and ever-changing attitudes towards the iconic gumtree; Electric Keys, opening on 2 July, will showcase over 20 keyboards from the Powerhouse collection.
