40th Anniversary Ride to head from the Murray to Healesville
The Greatest Road Trip
Saturday 23 November to Sunday 1 December
In a nod to history the Great Vic Bike Ride will return to where it began in 1984, in Wodonga.
Alison McCormack, CEO of Bicycle Network, says: "This year's Great Vic Bike Ride is a nod to the ride's extraordinary history which has introduced tens of thousands of cyclists to Victoria's varied and beautiful countryside, local sights and culinary delights."
The iconic event will feature some of North-East Victoria's must-see places: Yackandandah, Milawa, Lake Eildon and Marysville. Three thousand riders are expected to take part, delivering a huge economic boost to the region.
"With a mixture of rolling hills and valleys it's no surprise that Victoria's North-East has become Australia's most popular biking destination in recent years," McCormack said.
"The Great Vic Bike Ride has been exploring regional Victoria for 40 years. It's an amazing event, ask someone who has taken part. It's an unforgettable holiday, suitable for all ages. It's social, inspiring and a challenge," she added.
"Great Vic riders love becoming a local for a night, sampling produce and dropping into the restaurants, pubs, shops and cafes. They fall in love with the places they visit often returning to explore more after the ride".
There are nine, five and three day ride options giving riders the choice to cycle the whole route or sections.
After starting in Wodonga on 23 November, overnight stops are in Myrtleford (24th), Wangaratta (two nights with a loop ride, 25th and 26th), Mansfield (two nights and a rest day, 27th and 28th), Alexandra (29th) and Marysville (30th). It will finish on 1st December after 501 kms in Healesville with a rare opportunity to ride the picturesque Black Spur car-free.
