Melbourne's Monday night secret society Jazz Party unleash their debut single -Rock N' Roll Graveyard' and announce launch show on Monday 31 October (Cup Eve/Halloween) at The Curtin, Melbourne.
'When it comes to facilitating a damn good time, Melbourne's Jazz Party collective have got you covered.' – Beat
Rebellious pleasure seekers meet connoisseurs, Jazz Party mélanges a New Orleans styled revelry with a punk attitude. A Monday night secret dance party, where blues lovers and jazz dogs congregate over booze and rarified 45's, 'Rock n' Roll Graveyard' sees Jazz Party move from the stage into the studio for the first time. With eclectic influences from Fats Waller to Hanni El Khatib, Patsy Cline to Prince, Robert Rodriguez to Lana Del Rey, Jazz Party invite well-dressed freaks and self-confessed jazz haters to join them in their wild revelry.
Led by former saxophonist and songwriter of Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes Darcy McNulty, Jazz Party features vocalist, pianist and heartbreaker Hue Blanes, double bassist and cult dance hero Jules Pascoe and the commanding front woman and supreme diva of Jazz Party, the inimitable Loretta Miller, as well as a rotating cast of guest appearances by members from bands including Daniel Merriweather, The Cat Empire, Clairy Brown & The Bangin' Rackettes, Husky, Mojo Juju, Martin Martini and Kitty, Daisy and Lewis. The spirit of Jazz Party is surprise and spontaneity and you just never know who will show up to play a Jazz Party gig.
'Essentially we are a dirty beatnik rock n' roll band who play jazz and soul music" – Darcy McNulty.
Written by Darcy McNulty, -Rock N' Roll Graveyard' was produced by Steven Schram (Paul Kelly, Clairy Browne and the Bangin' Rackettes) and recorded live with the full 8-piece band at Soundpark Studios in North Fitzroy.
-Rock N' Roll Graveyard' is a song about nostalgia, death, jealousy, and love.
"After hearing RRGY, someone told me about a gothic church in Prague that's been built with human bones. You can build a song from things you find and dig up in life and music. A moon, a girl... Sometimes you find some bones and other times you just dig a hole for yourself to lie down in...I wrote this song when my heart and bank account were empty and I'm pretty happy with it."
