Boy Soda Kicks Off New Era With Single 'Lil Obsession'

A rising star in the new wave of world-class soul and R&B, Australian based artist and creative BOY SODA returns with new single 'Lil Obsession' - out today via Warner Music Australia.

Lyrically rich and sonically expansive, 'Lil Obsession' offers listeners a glimpse into BOY SODA's new musical era. With a focus on live instrumentation and soulful and heartfelt lyrics, BOY SODA takes the listener on a journey into his musical world; a world that takes inspiration from jazz, blues, neo soul, R&B and pop. Bringing together his community of classically trained musicians, and culturally rich co-writers and vocalists, BOY SODA spent 2 weeks in the inspirational Blue Mountains in NSW crafting his debut album, with 'Lil Obsession' providing the first tease of what's to come. 

Speaking on the new track BOY SODA said, "'Lil Obsession' is about letting go, and surrendering to the reality of a relationship that's been ruptured, or served its purpose. Making it brought self validation and release, and helped me actualise feelings I was struggling to articulate, as music often does. 

It's not a 'f*ck you' song by any means - more of a personal recount based on true events. I'm really excited to introduce these live elements, and tone of voice to people that find it, because it marks the beginning of a new era, creatively and spiritually for me."

'Lil Obsession' follows last year's release, 'MERLOT,' which received support from Happy Mag, AU Dollars, and earned a first play on triple j. BOY SODA has consistently garnered support from Australia's triple j throughout his career, including a celebrated Bars of Steel performance that showcased the range of his artistry. His 2022 single 'BIG' was featured in Netflix's global hit series Heartbreak High and was also part of the CONVERSE ALLSTARS program. Last year, in partnership with Converse, BOY SODA launched the SODA SESSIONS series, which spotlighted unreleased music and hosted artist-on-artist discussions within his community. In addition to his musical achievements, BOY SODA has delivered standout performances for the Sydney Kings NBL and luxury label Hermès, further solidifying his reputation as a dynamic live performer.
