Ascent

Ascent

Would you improve yourself to death?

Creating optical illusions with movement and light, along with a unique combination of original vocal and musical elements, Ascent is an innovative new music theatre production that takes audiences on the journey of one woman ever reaching for the ideal.

Undergoing a series of physical transformations in a quest to feel forever fresh and relevant, Ascent is another premiere Australian season by local outfit Citizen Theatre that examines what it is to be a woman, and the lengths some people will go to to achieve "perfection".

Running for THREE SHOWS ONLY at Theatre Works this Melbourne Fringe Festival, Citizen Theatre proudly brings Melbourne audiences a pertinent new work.

Citizen Theatre is an independent Melbourne-based theatre company that has been producing and creating new work and existing plays since 2013. The company is drawn to presenting social causes and issues on stage and works with a feminist, access conscious approach in mind. Many of their shows explore the combinations that music and theatre can offer, re-imagining how musical forms of theatre are perceived in Australia. Previous seasons include Alexithymia, Inferno: A Double Bill, Nude, The Importance of Being Earnest and Twelfth Night.

This season of Ascent is generously supported by Monica and Sam Abrahams and the Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation, as part of ShowSupport.
