The star that is Vetta Borne continues to shine bright as she unveils her heartfelt and deeply emotive sophomore EP 'Emelia' via Soul Modern. Emelia follows much of the intense lyricism and lush R&B stylings that have become a staple of Vetta Borne's artistry, accepting the difficult decisions of her past while giving thanks to the friendships and relationships that have helped evolve the person that Maribelle Anes has become. When Maribelle unleashed Vetta Borne out to the world, it was her way of paying homage to her grandmother, while also breathing new life into her creative process and giving her music authenticity. Multi-talented in her own right, Vetta Borne's aptitude in songwriting, production, and vocal engineering are on full display within Emelia, the culmination of two years of growth and evolving sonically as well as an individual. Emelia is the awakening of emotions, pertinent for finding love and comfort within yourself.
On the journey towards releasing the EP, Vetta Borne said, "Writing 'Emelia' was an emotional rollercoaster. I spent a lot of time by myself in lockdown learning more about myself as a producer and where I could take my music. All of the lyrics on the EP came from me growing as a person and validating my own emotions and experiences."
The five-track EP as a collective depicts a sense of transformation and acceptance, however, each single tells their own stories. The opening track of the EP, the upbeat pop anthem 'Kissing Strangers' has had listeners singing and dancing along since its release in January this year, however beyond the buoyant beat, it highlights the importance of trusting your intuition and making difficult decisions about significant relationships, the bittersweet feeling of experiencing heartbreak but acknowledging the need to make the right decision for yourself. Next comes the ode to self-love that is 'You Can Go', the realisation of one's self-worth and the ability to move on from personalities and relationships who aren't aiding your progress as an individual. The third single 'Beyonce' was the first released from the EP written during lockdown, referencing some of Vetta Borne's own 90s icons, while celebrating and thanking life-long friends and their support through tough times. The EP moves seamlessly to the sweet-sound melody of 'Sunshine', Vetta Borne's reminder to herself that developing both as an artist and an individual is a journey that takes time, but to keep calm and move forward. The final and focus track from 'Emelia', 'Luv On U' is a groove-laden memoir to a unique connection, whilst also spotlighting Vetta Borne's vocal range and ability to create a relevant soundtrack to the feelings faced when experiencing an all encompassing wave of love.
