TrackSAFE Rail Safety Week

TrackSAFE Rail Safety Week

Over 2,000 children and families gathered at Central Station in an initiative from Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink in conjunction with the TrackSAFE Foundation and Thomas & Friends to educate children about rail safety, to coincide with Rail Safety Week in August.

With a life-size Thomas the Tank Engine as the star attraction, children and their families were reminded of vital rail safety skills in a real life setting.

Some of the safety messages that were targeted at children aged between two and five years old, were:
Always hold hands with an adult
Follow instructions only from an adult you trust
Stay behind the yellow line until the train has stopped
If you drop something, ask station staff for help
Mind the gap between the train and the platform
Ask police or staff in uniform for help if you feel unsafe
Always walk (not run)
Press the emergency help button in an emergency

Children were also invited to climb aboard Thomas the Tank Engine, have their faces painted, listen to Thomas & Friends stories and meet the Fat Controller.

The initiative aimed to capture the imagination of children and get them excited about rail safety by providing a fun and engaging learning environment.
