The Vanns Ever

The Vanns Ever

The VANNS have made their return for 2023, coming out the gates swinging with new music, as a bright new chapter awaits. Today, the group shares their new single for the year in Ever, the first track lifted from their long awaited new studio album, Last Of Your Kind.

The road to Last Of Your Kind has been a long, though fruitful one, as The VANNS have been kept busy on the road and in the studio, pouring experiences and lessons learned into sessions, fusing them beautifully with new sonic inspirations. As fans' first taste of the album, Ever is striking in its tone and feel; offering an insight to The VANNS in 2023, vibrant and engaging as…ever.

Recorded with The Music Farm's (Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel) Chris Collins (Skeggs, Middle Kids), Ever is a gorgeous fusion of rhythms, poignant storytelling and vocals. In a similar vein to bands like Gang Of Youths, Interpol and Broken Social Scene, the way The VANNS deliver their narratives on record comes steeped in real emotion and connection. Ever is another great example of the intimacy the band injects into the music and lyrics alike, forming an expansive indie-rock palette that is layered with warmth and evocative tone.

"Thematically, 'Ever' is about the breakdown of a relationship that seemed to have all the boxes ticked as it pertains to the future and longevity of it all. The assumption that you'll be with a person for life after constantly being reassured that nothing will ever change between the two of you, and when it ends, you're left with a bevy of questions why and suppressed emotions that you're dying to express. It's a desire for answers, understanding, and, if attainable, some kind of closure." The VANNS

"The idea behind 'Last Of Your Kind' and a message throughout the album is living the most fruitful and spontaneous life you possibly can, in saying that, there is also no hiding the fact that we can all hit rock bottom, but you will always make it out the other side. Drop all the walls of questioning what other people may think about you. Embrace being different, embrace being weird and embrace being you, there will never be another... so make YOU the best fucking version you can." The VANNS

The release of Ever follows on from 2022's Haunted and Making It Out Alive, the only tracks shared by The VANNS in 2022 – a reminder of the evolution of the group, as they made their return to live touring, making up for time lost due to countless lockdowns on the East Coast.  With a rotation addition on triple j for both singles, alongside community radio support from Coast FM, Rebel FM, SYN, Radio Adelaide, 2SER, 4ZZZ & more, the tracks' accumulated 1,000,000+ streams across DSP's in 2022.

Alongside the release of Ever, the band are unveiling an extraordinary video to accompany it. Filmed in their hometown of Kiama, the band returned to Jimmy Vann's primary school to shoot the nostalgic clip. Flanked by the yellow walls of his old classrooms, The VANNS perform cathartically with a touch on tongue-in-cheek flamboyance.

"We filmed the Ever clip in my hometown of Kiama and in my old primary school which I attended in 2001. Walking back into that old sandstone building was very nostalgic for myself and my long time friend Jules Bourne (tour manager) who also attended the school and helped out directing the clip. We had Christopher Kidall Park filming and directing the clip on the day, he is a young gun!" Jimmy Vann, The VANNS
