Hailing from Newcastle are The Quokkas with their latest EP I Like You Just The Way You Are. The Quokkas are a children's music supergroup who are passionate about exposing Australian children to a diversity of voices, and raising a message of inclusivity far and wide.
The music group comprises of five diverse members: A vision-impaired Australia's Got Talent grand finalist (Matt), former Adelaide Crows footballer (Nick), a Dutch music therapist (Stef), a reality TV star (Komiti), and even the niece of Australian music royalty (Pamalyn). Pushing their ethos through song whilst teaching children that everyone plays a valued part in society, I Like You Just The Way You Are does exactly that with each track accompanied with a bright and playful video clip featuring the band.
The six-track EP features songs: I Like You Just The Way You Are, Traffic Light Song, For Everyone The Sky Is Blue, Dance Dance Dance (the sitting dance song), Ding Song, Just Get Dressed (a song for parents), Don't Pat Me Please (The Guide Dog song). "The six-track EP will get your kids singing and dancing while sending the message 'whether you walk or roll, talk with your hands or your mouth, are short, tall, whatever, we like you just the way you are," explains Nick.
The group has had a bumper year, having hit over 100k streams and views online, featuring on radio, podcasts and articles Australia-wide, and even being asked by Guide Dogs Australia to create a new theme song for their 2021 Open Day 'Don't Pat Me Please'. They've had interviews across Australia, including Hughesy and Ed on the Hit network, play on Newcastle's Hit 106.9, the Hit NSW Breakfast Show and Triple M Gosford's Breakfast Show; and have featured in The Newcastle Herald, The Newcastle Weekly, Aurora Magazine and more.
The Quokkas are in-demand, with a stack of upcoming gigs, including NAIDOC Week (2021), the Variety Children's Christmas Ball, The Cancer Council Ball, The Newcastle Conservatorium, and a ticketed event at The Cambridge in October.
