The Perch Creek Family Jugband

Off the back of The Perch Creek Family Jugband's recent single -Big Things Calling' - from forthcoming album Jumping on the Highwire  - the Melbourne band have just announced a swag of shows for the 2014 Tamworth Country Music Festival. To celebrate the final dates before the album launches across the nation in April, The Perch Creek Family Jugband will be premiering a brand new clip -  for album track -Party On The Farm' - through their website on Friday 17 January.

Originally from Perch Creek in the North Coast area of NSW, The Perch Creek Family Jugband is four siblings and one partner. With humble beginnings as a street jug band led by their eccentric father, Bob Hodgkins, The Perch Creek Family Jugband has been performing and evolving over the best part of ten years. Though Bob has since hung up his jug band hat and handed over the reins, he laid the foundations for one of the most engrossing and innovative musical acts doing the rounds of Australia today.

Released late last year -Big Things Calling' ushered in a new sonic direction for the troupe, expanding beyond their traditional jug band roots into a more indie-folk, contemporary sound. Radio needed no convincing with the track spending four weeks in the Top Ten Most Downloaded Songs to Australian community radio through AMRAP's AIRIT.  Their  accompanying -Dressing Up & Shaking Down' national tour, celebrating the -Big Things Calling' single release, saw them pack venues all up the east coast from Bellingen to Brisbane, Castlemaine to Caloundra.

From playing live on Spicks & Specks to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Perch Creek Family Jugband have a long history of working, touring, playing and living together, but interestingly, given their history and lineage, Jumping on the Highwire marks the first time they've collaborated closely as a unit throughout all stages of the song writing process.

A staple on the Australian festival circuit, performing at Woodford Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, The National Folk Festival, The Falls Festival, MONA FOMA, and Golden Plains to name a few, the last few years alone have taken them from dusty street corners to The Sydney Opera House, with two successful tours of Europe and the UK to boot. Watch this space: following the album launch tour across April and May the PCFJB will embark on a three month tour of Europe, the UK and Canada.

-Big Things Calling' out now independently, with distribution from Vitamin Records.
