Spring into Surry Hills

Surry Hills Festival today announces Saturday 22nd September as the date for Sydney's much loved inner city festival. All funds raised on the day go to community programs presented by Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre.

Themed Spring into Surry Hills this year's program kicks off from 13 September with a series of unique activations in Ward Park, along Devonshire Street and surrounds. It's bold, fun and gorgeous, celebrating founding of SHNCs in era of Flower Power (late 1960s/70s), the Centre's role in connecting communities, seeding opportunities for locals and creatives to flourish.

Applications are now open for bands, musicians, DJs, video makers, artists and pop up performers and vendors to apply. Applications close 9 June 2018Apply here.

Selected artists and creatives will work with Surry Hills Festival producers and community to overlay Devonshire Street and surrounds with a curated trail of vibrant and engaging projections, and pop up installations transforming the heart of Surry Hills into a network of inspiration and discovery for the Spring into Surry Hills initiative, running over ten days 13 - 23 September.

On Saturday 22 September, the annual Surry Hills Festival will culminate in one fantastic spring celebration of all there is to love about the iconic suburb, highlighting and exploring the area's history, colourful culture, diversity and community spirit the suburb is hailed for. As per previous years there will be much to see in Ward Park, Shannon Reserve, Crown St and pockets in between.

Join in long lead preparations for the festival with creative workshops being held at the Surry Hills Markets, on the first Saturday of each month. Head down to Shannon Reserve on 2nd June, 7th July, 4th August or 1st September to enjoy freshly baked scones at the Community Café and take part in creating fantastic bold public art installations that will line the streets on Surry Hills Festival day and beyond.

Surry Hills Festival, a FREE family-friendly day, will be packed with the trademark live music line-up, plus pop up spaces, nooks and crannies bursting with performance, local narratives, food and art – an engaging showcase of what makes Surry Hills the heart of Sydney's innovative creative district. Join the 60,000 expected Sydneysiders for the unofficial welcoming of spring.
