Following the release of her first full creative output in her debut album 'One of One', Australian songstress Starley releases the colourful new music video of the LP's namesake. Having been hailed as one of the most unique and exciting Australian artists to debut in recent years, Starley has quickly become a favourite of various fashion houses, whilst gracing the pages RUSSH, Grazia, The Daily Telegraph, and recently being featured by Rolling Stone Australia with a sensational performance for In My Room. No stranger to major TV appearances, previously performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Good Morning America, The Project, and more, Starley has returned with her most thrilling performance to date. Airing last night, Starley performed 'Better With U' as part of a date night for The Bachelorette Australia atop Sydney's world famous Harbour Bridge, with the jaw-dropping location featuring incredible views of the city beyond.
Whilst previously sharing that 'One of One' as a single discusses both the struggle with personal inner demons and the subsequent loss of a relationship, Starley now discusses how she envisioned that sudden feeling of loneliness being represented in the clip, "With this video I wanted the feeling of absence to really be felt. We wanted to contrast that with bright colours because often when I feel down, outwardly it can seem the complete opposite. I cover up everything with a smile and numb myself with food comas and mindless activities."
Directed by the very talented Natasha Foster & Erin Fairs of creative collective Collider, the duo share "When Starley approached us to work with her on 'One of One' she mentioned she wanted something colourful. As a directing duo, colour is our strong suit, so we created a surreal colour-blocked "house" for Starley to live in. The action you see in the video is meant to evoke the feeling you are living in a house you may have once shared with a partner. It's a bright, quirky take on a break-up song where the juxtaposition between the world and the lyrics creates an irreverence towards the situation."
Starley's 13 track debut album 'One of One' is out now, with the acclaimed singer-songwriter proving time and time again the importance of authenticity, and being fiercely yourself, with the LP providing a stunning insight into her evolution as an artist. Featuring her breakout hit 'Call On Me (Ryan Riback Remix)', which has earnt her over 1 billion streams worldwide, and Gold and Platinum accreditation across countless territories, the LP embraces moments of light and shade with songs tackling issues of love and acceptance with 'Love Is Love', the breakdown of relationships through 'Bad Love' and 'Let Me In', and moments of celebration through 'Better With U', and 'Signs'.
