Rising Braizlian-American pop artist Sophia Messa releases new track "What Am I Gonna Do With You" today via Arista Records and Sony Music Entertainment Australia. The latest single arrives on the heels of her recently released song, "offyourface " that Billboard praised as "infectious ."
This spring, Sophia released her debut, "moneydontfixlonely" along with a stylized music video, that lead NYLON to declare Sophia as a "force to be reckoned with."
"What Am I Gonna Do With You" serves as the latest incarnation of Sophia's subtly dark, left-of-center pop sound, highlighted by flawless vocals, honest songwriting and irresistibly enjoyable hooks.
Of the track, Sophia explains: "The idea behind "What Am I Gonna Do With You" stemmed from constantly running into this same guy that I was into. There was chemistry, but he wouldn't fully go for it. I didn't want to be the one to make the first move, so I wrote about the frustration of, 'you're so hot, I wish you would man up!'"
The 19-year-old singer-songwriter is a force to be reckoned with, exuding confidence and candor while being one of the most qualified new acts in the game. Born and raised in New York, Sophia grew up in lower Manhattan, and is a first generation American, born to self-made immigrant parents (she is a dual citizen of both Brazil and the US).
Sophia attended The Professional Performing Arts School (home to Alicia Keys) for middle and high school where she was classically trained in vocal performance and opera. Inspired by the world around her, she began writing original music in high school and recorded demos at a studio across the street from her apartment. During her senior year, she was accepted into The Berklee College of Music. At just three weeks in, and 24 hours after meeting with Arista's CEO/President, David Massey, Sophia signed a record deal and headed back to New York to launch her musical career.
