Pierce Brothers When It All Goes Away

Australian indie-folk faves Pierce Brothers have returned with a brand new single When It All Goes Away, an affecting indie-pop ballad co-written with Garrett Kato, marking the first taste of things to come as the Pierce Brothers announce an absolutely stacked COLLAB EP with some of Australia's most exciting artists, set for release later this year.

Known for their energetic and rambunctious live sets, When It All Goes Away is a decided step back into a more subtle pop balled. From the opening piano key strokes, the track sets a sombre ambiance as Jack's vocals delve into rich harmonies, while drums, percussion, and restrained banjo notes take the floor. Written during a session with platinum award winning artist and producer Garrett Kato (Ziggy Alberts, Julia Stone, Pete Murray) When It All Goes Away is an intimate, slow burn balled exploring the dying days of a relationship that will have fans of Damien Rice or The Lumineers wanting more. "We actually put this track together back in late 2019 when we were last in a room together, and we always loved the vibe but it didn't really fit the essence of the last album." Says one of the brothers, Jack Pierce, "When It All Goes Away is a deeper dive into pop than we have gone before. It's a very chill, understated exploration of yearning, longing, and bargaining in the face of a failing relationship."

"Writing with the boys is always a treat," Garett Kato says of writing the slowed down track with Pierce Brothers, "They think of songwriting so differently to me, and even to each other. I often need to try and slow them down a bit as their energy is about 10x mine. I am very proud of this song I worked on with them, it shows a different side of the brothers I think rarely seen and I hope to see more of."

When It All Goes Away is the first single to be released from an EP with a slew of tracks recorded in collaboration with some iconic Australian artists including Garrett Kato, Tash Sultana, Budjerah, Steph Strings, and long time producer Jan Skubiszewski. Embracing the lockdown situation, the brothers employed the unconventional technique of co-writing the batch of tracks over Zoom, and then headed to Red Moon Studios where they recorded their previous release INTO THE GREAT UNKNOWN to put most of the songs down. "While collaborating we wanted to explore different genres and places that we haven't been before," Pat says of the experience, "It was so good to get back into that space again! We all felt so free to experiment as this EP is about trying new things! It was tough at first as we were stuck writing over Zoom, but once we got in the swing of things with each artist, we were able to really pull something special together." 

With no release date set for the EP as yet, fans are able to catch new music from Pierce Brothers along with their new single at their huge run of shows through the UK and Europe where they'll be jetting back to for the first time since 2019, with support from one of the EP collaborators, Steph Strings. "We have loved working with Steph on the road before and loved getting into the studio together! We absolutely can't wait to jam together onstage across Europe," says Jack, "This next tour is going to be wild!"
