NATIONAL POLL REVEALS THE LENGTHS PARENTS GO TO AS KIDS GO BACK TO SCHOOL

As Aussie parents prepare their kids to go back to school, new research out today has revealed the average Aussie parent travels a whopping 1,168km a year ferrying their kids to and from school - further than a trip from Sydney to Melbourne!

The research, carried out by NitWits, a leading natural head lice product, asked 1,000 Australian parents to reveal all about the dreaded 'back to school' time and revealed some interesting findings about the to-ings and goings of the average parent. Half of Australian parents (50%) spend at least two to three days a week taking their children to various after-school activities. From dancing and swimming to pottery and even motor-cross, the average Aussie family spends over $1,000 a year on extra-curricular activities for their child.

One of the biggest concerns for parents as children head back to school is the fear of head lice setting up camp in their child's head, while 'getting the family back into a solid routine' was cited as the biggest worry. With the average parent spending 27 minutes a day getting their child ready for school, it's no wonder it's a stressful time. However, some parents didn't have any worries at all and were just happy to just get rid of their kids after the long holidays!

NitWits Brand Manager, Melanie Franklyn said: "It's not surprising to hear that head lice is one of the biggest worries when kids head back to school, especially given 95% of parents surveyed said school was the most common place children picked up head lice. Prevention against head lice is the key for 2010 so our advice to parents is to use a natural prevention spray and try to encourage children not to swap hats."

The survey also revealed some other interesting findings:
* Nearly 45% of parents spend over half an hour getting their kids ready for school each day
* Adelaide parents spends the least amount of time getting their kids ready for school, with majority of parents spending 15 minutes or less
* Parents in NSW topped the list for spending the most on their kids, with nearly 38% forking out over $750 whereas it looks like it's cheaper to have kids in Tasmania as 80% of parents stated they spend less than $100 a year on after-school activities.
