Melbourne's Nick Batterham is celebrating the fast approaching release of his new album Lovebirds with the perfectly captured music video for his latest lifted single, 'Turbulence'. Following a recent team-up with local filmmaker Ursula Woods for his previous single 'No Perfect Man', Nick has scored himself yet another dream collaboration with acclaimed director James Teh on what could very well be the most adorable music video of the year.
Candid and wholesome, albeit slightly melancholic, the wonderfully apt 'Turbulence' video follows a couple awoken by their children to a carefully orchestrated in-home flight service. Complete with jumper-arm seatbelts, crayoned emergency brace position cards, leftovers and juicebox meal services, and first class living room seats, the video perfectly envelopes the stunning awe of the track's imaginative and dreamy aesthetic.
"The initial idea for this music video came from a Tina Fey interview I saw one day on a BBC streaming channel. She told a story of how her kids had overheard her and her husband reminiscing about how much they missed air travel since the lockdowns had begun. Much to their surprise their children treated them by cooking dinner and seating and serving them as if they were on an airplane.
Nick Batterham's song 'Turbulence' whilst warm and fuzzy on the surface carries a dark undertone. I wanted to reflect this in Nick's music video. Parents on the brink of disaster possibly being brought back together by their children's creativity and love.
Myself and a director buddy Vittorio Badini Confalonieri shot this film on a sunny Saturday in Bangkok. The cast are mostly non-actors and real family members which led to some nice moments. I am very happy with the results and was very grateful to put some moving pictures together to such a beautiful song." – Director, James Teh
