Interview with Megan Knight
Question: How would you describe your music?
Megan Knight: Country/Alt Country, Americana, Country Rock, Roots.
Question: Can you tell us about Hard Way To Go?
Megan Knight: This single I wrote after being inspired by listening to Ohio by Neil Young; the tuning of that song had ideas flowing like water through my head. The story tells of my life on the road and sacrifices I've made since a child to pursue my dreams in this industry. It's definitely not an easy business to get into but no matter what it's taken, I've always felt I'd do anything to be able to follow my dreams. Nothing could ever steer my mind off the path that I feel I'm meant to travel upon.
Question: Is there a particular message you hope listeners take from your music?
Megan Knight: I hope listeners take inspiration and motive to keep striving for better after listening to my music. I write a lot about common struggles we all face every day and how to navigate the light through all the hard times. I think that's what life truly is; a series of various challenges constantly evolving who you are. Those lessons make you wiser, more developed and improved overall.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Megan Knight: I actually thoroughly enjoy both. I feel they work very opposite sides of your mind and the contrast between the two is what keeps everything so interesting and fun for me.
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
Megan Knight: What motivates me the most when writing music is just the overall feeling of release, honestly. I feel like writing is my form of therapy. It also makes me feel good to know people might resonate with my songs and it could help them in their lives.
Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
Megan Knight: Right now, I've been listening to a lot of Kacey Musgraves. I really love her new record and I love how raw she is in her storytelling. It's very inspiring.
Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Megan Knight: I've been surrounded by music my entire life; both of my parents really love music and I also have uncles in bands. I never really planned on getting into this industry; it just naturally kind of happened. It feels like it was just my calling in this life.
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Megan Knight: I would love to collaborate with Morgan Wallen. I just recently started really getting into his music and I would just love to write and record a country song with him.
Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?
Megan Knight: My favorite part of being an artist is the whole connecting part of it. I love meeting people who connect with the songs. When it makes an impact on them in some way shape or form, that is the most gratifying part I would say, for sure.
Question: What's a typical day like?
Megan Knight: My days always start with coffee, working out and then songwriting. It's that same set routine like clockwork. Then, a few times a week I do interviews, band practices and shows. I also love to take time for meditation and manifesting; spirituality is a huge part of my life. If I ever get an off night, you can always find me at a sports game, concert or shopping!
Question: What advice do you have for aspiring artists?
Megan Knight: The advice I would give for aspiring artists is to completely remain true to yourself. There is no other 'you' on this entire planet so embrace who you are.
Question: What's next, for you?
Megan Knight: I have a new single releasing on November 12th! That will be the title track of my upcoming EP. I also have many tour dates on the horizon so be sure to check out meganknightmusic.com for those upcoming shows.
