Folktronica singer-songwriter Mammals makes a return with new single 'Alive', a song that explores vulnerability and intimacy through times of uncertainty and isolation, premiered via triple j's Unearthed TOPS last night.
Co-written with PJ Harding (Ruel, Noah Cyrus), 'Alive' is an atmospheric indie electronica track that combines delicate vocals, driving synths and choral harmonies, showcasing Mammals ability to translate the song's intimate themes into a full-bodied soundscape. "'Alive' explores the solace we find in loved ones, though times of isolation and uncertainty. Although written before Covid, it seems to hit harder now than ever before," explains Guy aka Mammals.
"It was almost forgotten until the bare bones of the demo were played to a good friend and collaborator Drew Carmody (aka LDRU), who said it almost brought him to tears. We then went on to produce the track together. For me, it's an expression of gratitude for the life we lead through the ones we love." Guy continues.
Mammals career has been on the rise with his last release 'Mansion' premiering via Good Nights on triple j as well as landing on Spotify's New Dance Beats playlist and receiving praise from tastemakers such as Purple Sneakers, Music Feeds, NME Australia and more. His music has amassed over 20 million streams and has landed on multiple plays around the globe. He has scored syncs on several US TV Series including his single 'Depraved' which featured in the season finale of popular US television series How To Get Away With Murder. Moreover, he's graced stages supporting artists such as Of Monsters and Men, The 1975 as well as being invited by triple j unearthed to play St Jeromes Laneway Festival.
With the pandemic being a time to reset and reflect on Mammals, it has also provided an opportunity for Guy to breathe life back into old demos that lay dormant for years. He looks forward to releasing more new material, whilst continuing to collaborate with artists, as well as scoring music for film and television series around the globe.
