Lopsided

Lopsided

Lopsided is not your ordinary cancer memoir. Neither too series nor too saccharine, Meredith Norton chronicles every step of her experience starting with her bizarre symptoms while living in Paris, to moving back home to California and her compulsive parents with their five television sets. Irreverent and incredibly funny, Meredith rails against self-pity and victimhood, and rants about the innumerable copies of Lance Armstrong's cancer survival book offered by well-meaning friends.

Alongside the hilarious and harrowing portrait of her treatments, Norton offers equally amusing memories of her offbeat life. We see her childhood time during a somewhat racist ski trip a family reunion at a Florida alligator farm, and her life in a tree house with a neighbor, who, despite being vegan, hates mice, enough to taxidermy them in miniature versions of race-car drivers, Jesus, a UPS deliveryman, and Sally Jesse Raphael.

Like David Sedaris and Augusten Burroughs, Norton's razor-sharp wit is at once amusing and excruciating. Lopsided is a remarkable debut of a masterful social observer.

Meredith Norton:was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She attended Columbia College in New York, majoring in Film Studies with a focus on creative writing. She wrote Lopsided between twice daily radiation appointments and currently lives in Sonoma Country with her son.
