After a run of infectious singles released over the past 12 months, today Ivey are releasing their new EP love + miscellanea via Mirror Records. The band are also extremely thrilled to be announcing a run of headline shows across South East Queensland including Brisbane, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast and their hometown of the Gold Coast.
The 'love + miscellanea' EP, which was produced by Konstantin Kersting (Tones & I / Mallrat) is stacked with previous singles 'Talk Talk', 'Scream', 'Midnight', 'Bodies' and 'Valentine', two remixes, an acoustic version of #1 streaming track 'Bodies', and a brand new single 'I Hate U'.
Talking about the themes running through the EP guitarist Lachlan McGuffie says "'love + miscellanea' explores the stages of a romantic relationship. Each song came from a different place in time and from our separate experiences. Once we aligned the songs, we realised that our individual stories were actually piecing together a timeline in which a single relationship begins, flourishes and eventually falls apart."
The EP announce will no doubt come as very welcome news to fans after a year of successful single releases. Recent single 'Midnight' gained a spot add to Triple J as well as being added to Spotify playlists New Music Friday AU, Front Left, Get Popped, Indie Arrivals and more, whilst their previous single 'Scream' was heard spinning on high rotation nationwide with Triple J.
Interview with Ivey (Millie Perks)
Question: How would you describe your music?
Millie Perks: Romanticised pop fuck you's
Question: Can you tell us about your album 'love + miscellanea' ?
Millie Perks: It has been in the works for so long it's hard to think that it is actually out in the world. This ep is a massive love story from first meeting to the goodbye after the breakup.
Question: Is there a particular message you hope listeners take from your music?
Millie Perks: I hope listening to this ep will inspire people to fall in love, ask their crush out, let themselves feel exactly how they want to feel and feel those things about whoever they choose.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Millie Perks: This is such a hard question and almost unfair question. I love performing live and the thrill I get from fans, being able to be this loud, extravert, dancing mad woman (Which if you know me is pretty far from my usual introverted self) it's a feeling I didn't even know excited and a feeling that is hard to find elsewhere. But I love recording in the studio being able to get my voice completely perfect going over and over things to get it exactly how I want it. My OCD loves it. I love seeing all the different layers, using different harmonies and ad-libs to create something magical.
Question: What should we expect from your upcoming shows?
Millie Perks: It's very hard to say depending on where we're playing, what the laws are at the time and what Corona brings in the near future. But I think what Covid taught us is that we need to create a closeness with our fans and that's probably the biggest difference that you'll find a show coming up.
Question: What is the story behind the band name?
Millie Perks: When I first joined the band there was no name. We decided on the fourth because I was the fourth member. As time went on and we tried to release our first single we realise there was already a band called the fourth on triple J unearthed so we're in a mad dash to try and find another name. Our Facebook page at the time was called the fourth in Roman numerals so the IV. After the process of coming up with ridiculous names and almost settling on sleepee we realised that it was literally staring us in the face - IVEY.
Question: How did the band come together?
Millie Perks: Matt and Lachie are brothers and Dante lives next door to them, so they were already friends playing music together from quite a young age. My sister's boyfriend at the time was best friends with Lachie. My parents were having a party (I was 12 at the time) Lachie came along to the party and happened to be there when my mum asked me to play the guitar at 2 o'clock in the morning. Lachie heard me and pretty much said that I was in the band - two days later I was in the garage playing beautiful by Christina Aguilera with Matt. After a few years and releases we realised that our sound wasn't quite there yet. Matt was good friends with Riley who went to school with him. Riley came for a jam in our garage and the rest is history.
Question: You guys were all still in high school, can you share your tips for creating a successful schedule?
Millie Perks: I would love to be able to give you a tip and say for certain it's going to work, but unfortunately we are all still trying to work this one out. With any group it's difficult to work around everyone's schedules. So all I would suggest is to communicate with each other, keep an open mind and try your best, bring what you can and the rest will come.
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
Millie Perks: So many things motivate me and inspire my writing. But the boys are my biggest push.
Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Millie Perks: There are so many artists that I aspire to be like and have influenced me so much but it was my dad that introduced me to music, we would sing together all the time so I think that's where my love of performing came from and mum saw that and put me in to guitar lessons (thank you). In regards to properly delving in to the 'music industry' it's the boys they have pushed me, shoved me and pulled me in to the music industry and I am forever grateful.
Question: What's a typical day like?
Millie Perks: Coffee > Gym (maybe) > Work or study > Shower > Studio > Cook dinner > Bed
Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?
Millie Perks: Performing - it's a feeling like no other
Question: What's next, for you?
Millie Perks: A lot of writing
Question: Can you share your socials? (links please)
