I Am Woman

I Am Woman

Helen arrived in New York in 1966, virtually broke and a single mother of a toddler, before she went on to become one of the most successful recording artists of her generation. She wrote and sang the song "I Am Woman" that became the anthem for the women's movement in the 1970s.

A film for our times, I Am Woman is a story of fearless ambition and passion, about a woman who led the way for other women seeking equality by smashing societal norms to become the international singing superstar she always dreamed of being.

Tilda Cobham-Hervey (Hotel Mumbai, 52 Tuesdays) stars as Helen Reddy and she is joined in the cast by Evan Peters (American Animals, X Men, Deadpool 2), who plays Helen's legendary manager and husband Jeff Wald, and Danielle Macdonald (Skin, Patti Cake$, Bird Box, Dumplin') as the legendary rock journalist Lilian Roxon and Helen's friend.

The film premiered to acclaim at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.

I Am Woman is directed by Unjoo Moon (The Zen of Bennett), produced by Goalpost Pictures' Rosemary Blight (The Sapphires, Top End Wedding) and Unjoo Moon, and is written by Emma Jensen (Mary Shelley).

Academy Award-winning cinematographer Dion Beebe (Memoirs of a Geisha, Chicago, Collateral, Edge of Tomorrow, Mary Poppins Returns) is part of an impressive crew including production designer Michael Turner (Great Gatsby, Wolverine) and costume designer Emily Seresin (Top of the Lake).

"We're beyond delighted to reveal this first look at I AM WOMAN. Tilda Cobham-Hervey – breath taking as Helen Reddy - is a revelation in this role, confirming that she is a star of the now, rather than the future. Unjoo Moon has given us a film of great emotion, scale and contemporary resonance. We can't wait for Australian audiences to enjoy this incredible true story of an Australian icon who conquered the world," said Andrew Mackie from Transmission Films.

I Am Woman is a Goalpost Pictures production in association with Deep Blue Pacific with principal production investment from Screen Australia in association with Create NSW, South Australian Film Corporation and the Adelaide Film Festival. Financed with support from the Goodship Women's Fund. The film will be distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Transmission Films. WestEnd Films is handling international sales.

I Am Woman will be released in cinemas across Australia on May 21 next year.
