Brisbane based singer-songwriter Hello Jane is back with her second single for 2021 'Something Else'. It follows the success of her previous single 'Feeling Blue' which was selected for the Brisbane City Council QUBE Effect Program 2021. She uniquely blends classic folk storytelling and pop melody with a splash of country.
Hello Jane recently gained her Bachelor of Music degree and she already has a handful of singles under her belt. Her latest offering 'Something Else' sees Hello Jane working with award winning producer Yanto Browning (Kate Miller-Heidke, Art of Sleeping, Jungle Giants). The track also features some of Brisbane's finest musicians including singer-songwriter Danny Widdicombe on electric guitar, award-winning composer Bradley McCaw on organ and piano, Darran Muller on drums, and Steele Chabau on bass.
'Something Else' is a sweet song that hides a sting in its tail. As Hello Jane says: "[the song] is probably the most polite break up song I'll ever write. It is not angry or bitter, but instead it's gentle and well-wishing. Even as a writer, it still feels as though the song invites me in, offers me a warm cup of tea and lets me ponder in the quiet."
Self-producing the video for 'Something Else' was somewhat nerve-wracking for the young artist. Hello Jane says: "The process of filming the video clip was really exciting and terrifying in equal measure. Terrifying in the sense that having a camera in your face feels like the most unnatural place to be, but exciting because it was the first film clip I had ever made. It took two days in an old wood cabin in a forest, in the peak of the Brisbane summer, and the hard work of two film makers Madeline Randall and Stef Canard."
Having recently been one of 21 selected from over 700 entries for the Brisbane City Council QUBE Effect program, Hello Jane was also a finalist in the Listen Up Songwriting Prize 2020 for her previous single 'Everything's Alright'.
Hello Jane has kicked off 2021 with the successful curation of the Songwriter's Summer Series tour that has provided a stage for some of the best new emerging songwriters across Southern Queensland, travelling to rural towns including Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi, Dalby and Kilcoy. Hello Jane has also performed at many festivals including Gympie Music Muster, Tablelands Folk Festival, Redfest and the Toowoomba Festival of Flowers. She will also be kicking off a new self-curated tour series called Friends of Folk, with other emerging songwriters in July 2021.
Hello Jane has covered a lot of ground and had major success in such a short time. 'Something Else' has already proven to live up to its name and is sure to continue her success into bigger arenas and to bring many new fans to her music.
