Greg Gould returns with Grammy-nominated legend Eric Bazilian & Bachelor Girl's iconic front woman Tania Doko to deliver a stunning double release 'Bitter Sweet Symphony / One of Us'
Hot on the heels of his smash hit 'The Boy is Mine' from his number one debut album '1998', Greg Gould releases a two-track single which will see him build on his already established reputation as one of Australia's most gifted and exciting artists.
Track one is a powerful rendition of the 90's hit 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' by The Verve. Combining the vocal talents of Bachelor Girl's Tania Doko and Grammy Award nominated songwriter Eric Bazilian from The Hooters, the trio deliver a blissfully soaring version which can only be described as sublime beauty.
Displaying an innate understanding of each other's voices, Greg's unique arrangement allows all three artists to weave a soulful lament that truly draws the listener in. Underpinned by a solitary piano and the gorgeous pining of Eric's melodic mandolin, their voices share the light in an elaborate embrace whilst still allowing each other the space to shine.
The original lyrics written by Richard Aschroft speak to the challenges of life, money and despair and are timely for this Covid-19 era. The new music video co-directed by Gould and Australian Broadway legend Maria Mercedes, also reflects that theme; telling the story of a daughter abandoned by an alcoholic father who ultimately reconnects with him 30 years later after having her own child. Based on the true story of one of Greg's close friends, the adult daughter is played by Tania in this heart-breaking, all too poignant clip.
The underlying message of struggle and hope will clearly resonate with today's world and despite the serious lyrical content, Greg, Tania and Eric manage to turn the song into a yearning desire to become whole again.
The second track is a collaboration with Eric Bazilian on his original 'One of Us'. No less beautiful than Bitter Sweet, '(What If God Was) One of Us' continues to showcase Gould's vocal talents, once again floating above that hauntingly beautiful piano with the caress of Eric's majestic guitar. People who are aware of the original will immediately understand how much love and attention has been paid to this stunning version. Breathtakingly simple, the song gets a new lease of life which allows it to stand on its own merits.
If a God walked anonymously among us, then he would clearly gravitate towards these three remarkable artists who, on this evidence alone, really understand and appreciate their craft.
