Filmink Presents is delighted to announce the Australian theatrical release of the whimsical comedy GOLDEN VOICES, releasing in cinemas nationally on 25 March 2021.
Victor and Raya Frenkel were the golden voices of the Soviet film dubbing for decades, lending their talent to everything from Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep in Kramer vs. Kramer to helping Fellini launch in the USSR. In 1990, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Frenkels immigrated to Israel, just like hundreds of thousands of Soviet Jews, and are forced to adjust to the culture shock.
In their sixties, Victor's and Raya's attempts to use their vocal training results in bizarre and unexpected events during their first months in Israel, turning the beginning of the new chapter of their life into an amusing, painful, and absurd experience.
GOLDEN VOICES is based on the personal experience of Co-Screenwriter and Director Evgeny Ruman (The Man In The Wall).
"I like to look back at the past from a different perspective and turn it into a movie. This film was born from a love of cinema. While developing the project, I discovered it expresses something much bigger - a story of grown people that had to reinvent themselves completely to start a new life in Israel", says Co-Screenwriter and Director Evgeny Ruman.
GOLDEN VOICES has won hearts around the world, winning the International Competition Award for Best Director at the Bari International Film Festival. the Israel Film Competition Award Honorable Mention at the Haifa Film Festival and the Jury Prize for Best Script at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Locally, GOLDEN VOICES has been selected to screen at this year's Australian International Jewish Film Festival.
Evgeny further comments, "I aspired to get the crowd to laugh-out-loud rather than smile during the most absurd and funny moments in the film. I want them to be deeply engaged in the dramatic storylines and maybe even shed a tear as they reach the culmination".
GOLDEN VOICES is distributed by Filmink Presents.
