The Friday program features the 2011 Face The Music keynote speakers, Brent Grulke - creative director of Austin's annual music conference South By Southwest and Dan Rosen (CEO, PPCA/ARIA). Other highlights include Doing It The Indie Way, an artist development discussion on artists and bands taking control of their music themselves; and What's Your Story? Tell It! - a workshop teaching media skills for artists with advice from Jeff Jenkins (freelance author), Dom Alessio (triple j announcer), Shane O'Donohue (Inpress), Chrissie Vincent (publicist) and Evan Alexander (Heapsaflash PR). Sessions will also be held on topics including: grant-writing, songwriting, touring internationally featuring Henry Wagons and copyright featuring Ian James (Managing Director, Mushroom Music).
Day Two program highlights are the APRA Songwriting sessions with Jarrad Brown (Eagle and the Worm) and iconic Australian songwriter Paul Mac. Special guest, Ted Gardner will also share his experiences promoting and managing bands like Janes Addiction, Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Verve and The Brian Jonestown Massacre over the last 25 years; while ARIA-award winning producers Paul McKercher (Sarah Blasko, You Am I), David Briggs (Little River Band, Australian Crawl) and Mark Opitz (INXS, Hoodoo Gurus) will discuss recording and production. In Live Performance, Mikey Cahill (music writer for the Herald Sun) will lead a discussion on the importance for an artist to sell themselves from the live stage with a panel featuring Nick Findlay (triple J assistant music director), Neil Wedd (venue booker), Alicia Moreau (artist manager) and musicians Jon Toogood (Shihad) and Sophia Brous. In addition, sessions will be held on viral music marketing, writing contracts, regional touring, trade fairs, visual marketing and post-event networking.
