Daft Punk Unchained is the first documentary film about the most secretive band in the world, Daft Punk. Featuring exclusive interviews with some of their closest collaborators including Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers and Skrillex, Daft Punk Unchained is an epic story of how these uncompromising artists have built their music, their image and all aspects of their inspiration.
Between fiction and reality, magic and secrets, theatrics and humility, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have created a unique artistic universe. Throughout their career they have remained determined to control every link in the chain of their creative work. They refuse to show their real faces and orchestrate each of their rare appearances as robots with clockwork precision.
The film tells the Daft Punk epic as it unfolded along the twenty years, from their first school band in Paris to their historic concert at Coachella festival in 2006 and their spectacular triumph at the 2014 Grammy Awards for the album Random Access Memories where they won five awards. Shot in Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo and Paris, the film features unique and intimate accounts by some of their closest friends and collaborators as well as rare archive footage and old photos without their helmets.
