Charlotte Roberts Dreams Are Made Of

Regional Victorian multi-disciplinary artist, improvisational vocalist, musician, composer, producer and performer, Charlotte Roberts returns with mesmerising new single 'Dreams Are Made Of'. Based in The Macedon Ranges on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, Charlotte creates soulful avant-garde art-pop birthed from the combined kinetic energy of movement, sound and nature. A founder and facilitator of The Musical Body, leading improvisational songwriting, meditation and creative workshops, Charlotte's musical practice is grounded in exploration, ritual and genre-bending freedom. Her debut album Stay In Your Power was released in 2018; a bold collection of empowering experimentalism that introduced Roberts' as an artist existing beyond the structural constraints of modern songwriting. Now, the boundary pushing creative is excited to reveal her first new music in over two years, with the mesmerising sounds of 'Dreams Are Made Of'

Out via Ditto, 'Dreams Are Made Of' is an idyllic first taste of Charlotte's forthcoming second album Incantations, due for release in 2021. Co-produced with Joe Hammond, the single is a lilting poem of self-confidence, determination and ambition set to the soundtrack of rhythmic lyricism and atmospheric vocal instrumentation. Using her voice as the sole instrument, and recording the track in a single take of improvised movement and sound, Charlotte met her loop pedal like a dance partner in the studio, incorporating it with purpose and care as if it were an extension of her own self. The result is a marvellous and sprawling sonic journey into the depths of the human psyche.

"'Dreams Are Made Of' is about discovering and cultivating a sense of calling in life. It is a note-to-self reminder about the transformational power of showing up to a personal practice, drawing on structure, letting go and continuing on returning to the small daily steps towards dreams. It's really a celebration of the voice as a medicine, as a presence and as something that guides us internally and is strengthened when we give it space and energy." – Charlotte Roberts

Charlotte Roberts' amphibious and off-the-cuff compositions hold one foot in the sea of music and the other on the shore of art. This stylistic approach to her practice has seen her recognised by all corners of the creative industry including community radio, theatre critics, art curators and festival programmers. Charlotte's second album Incantations is a vocal and loop based album, drawing on the breadth of the voice as an instrument. Now in its final trimester of gestation, it features stacked harmonies, nature sounds, textural sounds, rhythmic play, beat boxing, soloing and the continuous interweaving of these elements. Stay tuned for the album's release date.
