A passionate artist and more than a heroine, Frida Kahlo has left a lasting legacy in imaginations with her highly colourful world and exhuberant style, which inspired Chantal Thomass and her love of confident, free and liberated femininity this season.
Along with fellow muse Carmen Miranda, Chantal Thomass presents the new SS16 collection in an explosion of colour, lace and ruffles, against a backdrop of postcards from Mexico and Brazel. Featuring a monochromatic palette with splashes of vibrant reds, the collection is part divine Latina and part pin up, to which both brings a joyful shimmer of bright colours, floral motifs, polka dots and stripes.
Frills become rippling shoulder pads highlighted with rickrack, matador inspired briefs and stockings, retro high waist briefs with suspenders, mantillas that delicately veil the brassier neckline and sensational corestry with braces. Last but not least, bandanas worn by Texan cowboys transforms into a short-sleeve bustier, with its collar tied like a neck-scarf, along with cowboy boots inspired tights and red tulle ruffles with white polka dots across the shoulders. All these elements come together to create an underwear-as-outerwear approach and a twist on masculine/feminine style.
Get out the maracas, tambourines and conga drums! It is going to be a ... red hot Latino summer with Chantal Thomass.
