Caffè Sospeso's owners, Norman and Ian both hold a strong sense of ethics and believe "that with the privilege of serving food comes a responsibility to the consumer, the environment and the community,. says Ian. Ian continues, "This includes a strong sense of social justice which is why we support and promote cruelty free animal products and small coffee making regions.. Some restaurants "claim. to use free range. As owners, they insist on knowing exactly where the chicken, pork and eggs they purchase are grown and produced, by requiring suppliers to demonstrate traceability right down to identifying the farm the product was sourced from. For example Caffè Sospeso.s eggs are free range AND organic. Their supplier is certified by NASAA - the highest level of organic certification.

Caffè Sospeso is proud to be one of the first cafes or restaurants in Victoria to receive RSPCA Choose Wisely Gold Egg Commitment status. This means you won't find a single cage egg used in the place! What.s behind the name you ask? Well, Caffè Sospeso literally means "coffee in suspense. an old tradition in the cafes of Naples, Italy. A caffè sospeso is also a sign of your good fortune. When a sospeso is ordered, the customer pays for two coffees only to receive one. The second coffee "held in suspense. is then offered to a person who is homeless or otherwise down on their luck when they call into the café to ask if there are any coffees held in suspense.

Norman said, "The support from customers has been overwhelming, we never expected so many people to give so generously, but they have and it.s absolutely fantastic." The Café is fully licensed with beer on tap, offers a covered courtyard and function space upstairs for small to medium sized events, dinner on Friday.s and Saturday.s and also offers catering for local businesses.
