Blake Dantier has fast become a bonafide fixture on the country music scene. Recognised by The Tamworth Songwriters Salute Awards, as the 2021 New Songwriter of the Year – an award he shares with his fiancé and fellow country music star Cass Hopetoun for her #1 airplay hit 'Typical Bride' - his writing skills are ramping up to showcase Dantier as one of the brightest stars of 2021.
He has now unveiled his latest offering, a good-time song with a honky tonk feel titled 'Last Call', which is - perhaps - a drinking sequel, following his previous single 'Wish You Were My Beer'. "I have a tendency to write drinking songs….or songs set in a bar" admits Dantier. "Last Call is no exception. I had this one written since late 2019 but I decided to re-write it while I was in Tamworth this year, because I wanted to shift the focus off drinking to being more about just having a good time. Cass was getting her nails done for the Golden Guitars (I opted to go au naturel) so I sat in the car on Peel Street and wrote a few new verses while I waited".
Produced by Simon Johnson at Hillbilly Hut Studios, 'Last Call' is a salute to beer-filled evenings that cocoon you from the monotony of the 9-5 grind. Dantier's raw vocals and crying slide guitar make 'Last Call' a guaranteed toe-tapper and an anthem to the joy of the golden ale.
Accompanying the release of 'Last Call' is a visualiser, which was filmed on Dantier's iPhone by his fiancé and fellow country artist Cass Hopetoun. The visualiser documents Dantier's spontaneous adventures on the gritty streets of Sydney's inner-city suburb of Newtown, taking the audience on a journey of discovery and delight. "The idea was to capture an authentic good time, which is exactly what the song is about," Dantier enthuses.
