Billie-Jo Porter Feels Like Us

Billie-Jo Porter Feels Like Us

Billie-Jo Porter shares her sunny debut release 'Feels Like Us' – an upbeat, heart-warming love song co-written with Andrew Blyth at the Dag Sheep Station Songwriters Retreat.

Billie-Jo is no stranger to songwriting success. She co-wrote 'Head Full of Honey' with Andrew Swift, which peaked at No.7 on The Music Network's Hot 50 airplay charts.  Prior to this, Billie-Jo cut her teeth supporting artists including Kevin Bennett, Hussy Hicks, Gretta Ziller & Riley Catherall before heading to Canada to take the stage at the Revelstoke Street Festival. Back home, she's frequented festivals including Tamworth Country Music Festival and Bello Winter Music Festival, delighting audiences and generating a strong industry buzz.

Her rising success captured the attention of multiple Golden Guitar and Aria Award winner Shane Nicholson, who produced 'Feels Like Us' at The Sound Hole studios on The Central Coast. On working with Nicholson, Billie-Jo marvels at his ability to engineer "clear honest vocals infused with joy and positivity".

Co-written with Andrew Blyth at The Dag Sheep Stations Song Writers Retreat, her debut offering was inspired by her relationship with her long term partner Kyle, who also features in the clip. "Feels Like Us is about a love that is well worn in" explains Billie-Jo. "Andrew Blyth and I reflected on our own personal relationships and infused them into the song by focusing on the honesty of the journey of everyday life in love" she enthuses.

Her high vibrational energy translates well into the music video, where Billie-Jo and Kyle's relationship is captured as they dance together, representing the fun and frivolity of their relationship. Most love songs can be maudlin, with one partner yearning for an unrequited other.  In contrast, 'Feels Like Us' is the opposite - a couple who are in sync with each other's quirky nature depicting a relationship based on fun, joy and ease.  "Part of the fun of my relationship with Kyle is joint hobbies, so it was great to add dancing to that. The only dancing experience we had prior to this was lighting up the odd pub dance floor. Needless to say, we had a lot to learn!" laughs Billie-Jo.

The video was filmed at the historical Marrickville Town Hall under the direction of Bruce Dawson  and Lawrence Lim from Tribal Apes, with the dancing choreographed by Rebecca Ross who worked closely with Billie-Jo and Kyle, using movement to represent their playful and unique relationship.  The video also articulates Billie-Jo's free-spirited approach to love, life and music.

A new refreshing artist with serious industry kudos, Billie-Jo stays connected with her audience and live streams every Thursday night on Facebook. With her sentimental and energetic songwriting, Billie-Jo Porter is a fresh talent ascending new heights, and 'Feels Like Us' sprinkles joy into the ears of her listeners, taking them on a high spirited journey of delight, music and love.
