Bakers Delight leads the industry in its voluntary addition of folic acid to its loaves, contributing to the reduction of Neural Tube Defects in Australia each year.
The Bakers Delight White, Wholemeal, Country Grain and Cape Seed loaves and rolls, are 'Good Sources of Folate', with over 25% of the Recommended Dietary Intake (RDI) of folate. In fact, two slices of their highest selling White Block Loaf, contains 72% of the RDI for folate.
Bakers Delight White bread is also made from unbleached flour, is preservative free, and is a good source of energy.
It is estimated that over 30% of Australian women of child bearing age, do not meet the RDI for folate, and up to 500 pregnancies in Australia are affected by Neural Tube Defects each year, including such defects as spina bifida.
Australia is yet to join the US, Canada, and more than 40 other countries in the mandatory fortification of flour with folic acid.
Bakers Delight has taken an active stance to ensure flour used in its loaves is fortified with folate in an effort to reduce the number of Neural Tube Defects in Australia.
