Art Exhibition and Dinners Focusing on the Power of the Feminine

Passionate foodie, cooking instructor and renowned Queen of artisanal pop-up dinners across Melbourne, Chef Ella Mittas is pleased to present Women and Witchcraft; A Celebration of Power at Abbotsford Covent 23 Nov – 2 December, with opening night kicking off 23 Nov from 6pm-9pm.

A self-curated art exhibition showcasing works from a range of all female artists interpreting the feminine divine in its magical and supernatural forms will be on display at St. Helier's Gallery in tandem with a series of 5-course themed dinners inspired by the pagan Sabbat, Beltane.

Featuring female winemakers and musicians, the dinner will draw from Beltane's message of abundance and fertility on all levels when the earth's energies are its height in the late spring and early summer season. Foraged, flowers, fresh and fired ingredients are all on show here.

Ella has been creating specialized dinners for over 3 years in Melbourne with "Witchcraft And Women" making its debut with an attached art exhibition. "Recently, the women's empowerment movement has gained so much momentum," said Ella. ' A large part of society has gone from not acknowledging that there is a real disparity between the way women and men get to participate in the world, to now believing that there is a problem that needs to be changed," she added.

"I started doing these events because I love food and cooking," said continued. "I had a hard time working in the hospitality industry as there was a toxic nature in restaurant kitchens with bullying playing an unfortunate role. ' For me this event is about celebrating being an outcast and the power of the female community at large," Ella stated.

Exhibition artists include Melissa Grisancich, Celestre Mountjoy, Ruby Hoppen, Lucia Canuto, Linsey Gosper, Eloise Grills, Molly Dyson and Lucy Kostos. A team of female floor staff will be provided by Merchant Catering – a social enterprise that provides hospitality training and employment to women of refugee backgrounds.
