The Secret Cure

Based on a true story about Hans Asperger, the 'Schindler' of children with Aspergers Syndrome in World War II Austria, UWA Publishing is proud to re-release Sue Woolfe's The Secret Cure.

Woolfe introduces us to Eva, a cleaning lady in a small scientific laboratory who embarks on a secret mission to discover a cure for her daughter, who suffers from Aspergers.

Meanwhile the groups of determined scientists working at the laboratory showcase their aspiration, jealousies, hatreds, intrigues, deceptions and triumphs as they try to make the regional Australian laboratory internationally famous.

Sue Woolfe, whose brother suffered greatly from Aspergers, was motivated by the dramatic revolution in the way medicine and science now look at illnesses.

"The Secret Cure spans over the time when we thought that personality problems were caused by parents, especially by mothers, all the way to present day gene therapy," she said.

Sue Woolfe is the award-winning, best-selling author of 3 novels, Painted Woman, which will be translated and published by Editions Phebus in France in 2008, Leaning Towards Infinity, which has been translated into several languages and her most recent novel, The Secret Cure. UWA Press published The Mystery of the Cleaning Lady: A Writer Looks at Creativity and Neuroscience in 2007.

"... this is an outstanding work of imagination, wit and intellect. I await with fascination the future development of this highly talented writer." - Gillian Dooley, Australia Book Review.
