"Yet most people, even those successful and wealthy by worldly standards, often feel desperate, depressed, stressed, anxious and lonely. Even though our environment contains everything we could ever want or could achieve, we are generally unhappy and dissatisfied with life."

Offering insight into techniques designed to help readers practice self-knowledge and gain power over their mind, body and emotions, Hattin hopes to inspire readers to combat procrastination and seek the changes needed to find fulfillment in their own lives. Elize Hattin holds an honours degree in psychology and information science, and has trained as a life coach in the United Kingdom and as a business coach in the United States. Serving as the foundation for her work as a Success Strategist with an international client base, Hattin's dream is to inspire and equip ordinary people to live extraordinary lives. Born and raised in South Africa, Hattin also lived in London before relocating to Australia, where she now resides with her husband and two daughters.

Question: Why did you decide to write The Naked Truth About You?

Elize Hattin: This book was born out of my sincere desire to help people. As a life, business and executive coach, it is my privilege and honour to speak with different people daily and assist them in creating their own unique extraordinary life. Every day I meet people who want their lives to matter, who are doing the best they can with what they know and who want the world to be somehow different because they are alive. Every day I speak with people who love their kids and families and who strive to find a work life balance. Every day I speak with people who are determined to step up and overcome the challenges that come their way. Every day I speak with people who want the rest of their lives to be the best of their lives. Every day I wish that there were more hours in the day to speak with more people, to assist more people on their journey, to help more people live extraordinarily. Writing The Naked Truth About You, made the programs that I use with my clients accessible to anyone to read in the comfort of their own home in their own time.

Question: What research went into The Naked Truth About You?

Elize Hattin: The information contained in the book was born out of my own desire to understand what life is about. I am driven to know and understand in a logical and systematic manner. The Naked Truth About You is a guide to life that is explained in a practical, easy to understand way. Ever since I can remember I have had a deep desire for wisdom and understanding. I enjoy working things out, piecing different bits of information together to form a coherent whole. The information in this book was drawn from my training in psychology (I hold an honours degree in psychology), my experiences in working as a Life, Business & Executive Coach and many hours of my own research.


Question: How can we fight feelings of desperation, depression, stress, anxiousness and loneliness?

Elize Hattin: Occasional unpleasant emotional experiences are essential elements of a healthy life. Every unpleasant emotional experience is trying to coach you by delivering an important message to you. These experiences are designed to be unpleasant to attract your attention. You need these emotional experiences to deliver a message, either about you, your environment or your life. Understanding the message is the first step. The second essential step is to ACT upon the message. It is the action you take based on the message that will allow you to move beyond the unpleasant emotional experience into feeling good again.

The messages your unpleasant emotional experiences carry are designed to help you to:
Stay safe
Build relationships with others
Become more effective and productive
Develop personal strength and power
Grow to be the powerful YOU

Many people suffer from loneliness. If you are lonely, not taking the appropriate action is preventing you from feeling good and contributing to the world. Take initiative, take action and feel good again.

If you feel lonely, the message is:
'Build a relationship with someone!'

Here are a few suggested actions to take:
Identify someone or a group with whom you can build a relationship.
Start spending time with another human being.
Always have something to contribute to another human being; it could be a smile, a hug or even a sympathetic ear.
It is time to serve others with your gifts. For example, if you are a good cook, bake a cake to take it to a local nursing home for the residents.
Examine what you have to give - love, care, time, and what kind of connection you desire.
Volunteer your gifts to people who would benefit from your contribution.

Other unpleasant emotions also deliver us messages. If you are feeling anxious the message is:
You think/feel something bad might happen that you will not be able or willing to cope with. This is a response to a real, imagined or anticipated change in your environment.

The actions that you should take include:
Get ready and prepare for the anticipated event Focus and figure out how to deal with the change
Recall the reality that most things you have been anxious about never happened
Relax and take action
Do breathing exercises. Example: breathe in for ten seconds, hold for five seconds and breathe out for ten seconds. All the while, focus entirely on your breathing

If you are feeling mildly depressed there is also a message.
Note: If you are feeling severely depressed, please consult your General Practitioner as soon as possible
You are withdrawing from others
An expectation you have has not been met
A need you have has not been met
You are feeling overwhelmed and fearful

Some suggested actions are:
Do something: act into a new way of thinking
Talk back positively to yourself
Challenge your thoughts
Foster gratitude
Take action
Change your expectations.

Stress is something that most people will experience and it is important to remember that a limited level of stress is a good thing. Feelings of stress send us the following messages:
Your passion for life is being smothered
You are allowing some things to become more important than they really are
You are allowing a foundation of fear to produce stress and scepticism in your life
You are losing perspective

Actions that you should take when you feel stressed are:
Repeat the question 'Is this worth it to lose my health over?'
Cultivate a positive perspective about the future
Act your way out of stress and into a calmer position
Undertake moderate exercise

Every emotional experience you have is valuable. Ensure you experience the feel-good emotions 90% of your life and use the remaining 10% of unpleasant emotional experiences to your benefit. Allow them to help you grow, improve and learn as much as possible.


Question: Tell us about your goal of helping 20 million people create their own unique extraordinary life by 2020?

Elize Hattin: I want our world to be a better place, filled with people who feel good, contribute to the world by doing what they love, engage in loving and happy relationships, and make a positive difference to the communities they live in. I want to live in a world filled with Safety, Happiness, Love and Wealth, where people live lives of significance, contribution and meaning.

This is the world I want to help create and be a part of and this is the world I want our children to grow up in. To create this world and achieve my vision, I need and intend to spark a revolution and 'activate' millions of people seeking to unleash the power of their own unique extraordinary lives. I aim to help 20 million people achieve that by 2020. I have already helped many people do just that through my coaching and teaching and now it is time for The Naked Truth about You to play its part by helping to light the spark on a much greater, potentially global, scale.
