Interview with Tricia Brennan
Question: In your words, what is The Map of the Soul about?
Tricia Brennan: The Map of the Soul is a step-by-step guide to discovering your true purpose and fulfilling your heart's desires. It takes you through a gradual process of tapping into your hidden potential and using those strengths and talents to create a life that you genuinely love.
Question: What made you decide to write this book?
Tricia Brennan: I had so many clients come to see me who had very substantial lives, yet for many of them, there was something missing. That something was a deep connection with their Soul and a sense of purpose in their lives.
It is so easy for us to get caught up in the endless to-do-lists associated with our lives that we seldom take time to consider our preferences and reflect on what makes us really happy. We lose site of who we really are - beyond the constructs of our identity.
We fall asleep under the Egos spell - believing that it alone will get us what we want. Yet, it is our Soul or Essence, which gives birth to the goodness, truth and beauty in our world. It is the source of creativity and love.
One of the most beautiful things you can experience in life is discovering new parts of you and exploring the world you live in. The practical steps and exercises in the book make that process of self-discovery fairly simple.
Question: Why do you think it's so difficult for people to find a sense of purpose?
Tricia Brennan: Unfortunately a lot of people are out of touch with their feelings. In many cases they even become 'comfortably numb' or dull their sensitivity to avoid feeling pain.
Question: How do you know if you're off track or off purpose?
Tricia Brennan: Your feelings are a valuable gauge. If you are on-track you will be emotionally buoyant and your energy will expand. You will feel less self-conscious. When you are off-track life becomes a struggle, and your emotions become more restrictive.
It important here that we define 'feelings' - our feelings aren't the raging emotions we might feel when we are angry or upset … the emotions that drive us into knee jerk reactions to things.
Our feelings are the quieter senses we have, which come to the surface when we get in touch with our intuition. Getting in touch with feelings requires stilling our thoughts and quietly reflecting. We enter a gentle, receptive state where we can feel the presence of our Soul and listen to the whispers from our heart. If we are willing to sit in the uncertainty and remain open, we will eventually hear our Soul's call to adventure. Like a gentle wind, it stirs and lifts our Spirit and inspires us to take action.
Your intuition is like a compass that will guide you towards your ultimate destiny on the Map Of The Soul, if you follow it. It will eventually lead you to the path of achieving greatness.
Question: Do you think that applies to everyone?
Tricia Brennan: We were all born with a touch of genius and the capacity to achieve greatness. This is why dreaming and visioning is so important. We need to stretch the image of who we are and who we are becoming to encompass more of our True Self.
You were born to be the best person you can possibly be and you have everything it takes to create what you want. There is nothing missing within you - you are whole and complete.
The key is to build your passion and desire so it outweighs your fears and doubts. That is why The Map Of The Soul is such a valuable companion on the road to living an extraordinary life. It helps you overcome your limitations, develop your strengths and claim more of the power and beauty of your Soul and Spirit.
Question: How do we find out who we really are?
Tricia Brennan: It is important that we align with our Authentic Self and not the identity we believe we have to uphold in the world to get what we want, based on other people's opinions. That merely reflects who we think we are supposed to be rather than who we genuinely want to be in our heart. If we follow that path, we will sell ourselves short and eventually sell out.
It is important that we give ourselves permission to dream a dream and live that dream rather than settling for mediocrity. Simply fulfilling our obligations and duties will never satisfy our Soul. Our Soul seeks power through adventure and experience and our Spirit thrives on searching and stretching for deeper meaning and understanding.
Our imagination is a powerful tool and so are our feelings - they are the language of our Soul. We need to get out of our heads and start getting in touch with our hearts and then following them. We need to take the power back from our Ego to define who we are and look towards our Truer Self. It is like a monkey on our back that fills us with doubt and tells us that we are not good enough. In truth - our Soul is perfect and pure in essence and our Spirit is divinely unique.
