The Bark Cutters

One woman torn between love and the land.

Sarah Gordon would love to run the family property Wangallon, but her beloved older brother Cameron is set to inherit. When her brother is killed in a tragic accident, Sarah can't stand to stay on the property, with her mothers disintegrating grasp on reality, and with memories of Cameron and the great times they shared, everywhere. She flees to the city, while Anthony, who started off at Wangallon as a jackeroo, is asked by Sarah's grandfather to run the property.

However the pull of the land remains for Sarah- the Gordon family have owned the land for generations- and, over time, she realises she must decide where her heart really lies. Is it with her burgeoning photography career and devoted boyfriend, Jeremy, in the city, or is it back on Wangallon, with her cantankerous grandfather and Anthony who has always been there for the Gordon clan when they needed him?

The Bark Cutters is a moving story told through four generations of a family living on the land. Nicole Alexander is a talented new voice to come out of outback Australia.

Nicole Alexander left her high flying marketing career in Singapore to return to the family property Murki at Boomi, NSW in the early 90s. She originally only intended to stay for a year but like many Australians in the outback she decided to give up the city and make her life on the family property.
