September School Holiday Program at M.A.D.E

School Holiday Program at The Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (M.A.D.E)

Where better to spend the September school holidays than at The Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (M.A.D.E) in Ballarat, enjoying the museum's FREE school holiday program, M.A.D.E FOR FUN?

M.A.D.E. FOR FUN runs from September 23rd to October 4th 2013, from 10am to 5pm, and includes three free educational activities: the -Model and Maze video craft' construction activity, an interactive -Cyber Storytime' and a -Self-guided Discovery Worksheet' that challenges children to find certain objects in the exhibition.

There will also be a performance of -Flash Twinkle Toes Silly Circus Show,' on the 2nd October, costing just $10 a ticket.

Family passes to M.A.D.E itself are only $35 (Ballarat locals are free)

Ballarat is a short and exciting train ride for children from Melbourne.

Model and Maze video craft
Kids will enjoy M.A.D.E's cardboard construction activity where they can design and build their choice of a colonial cottage, miner's tent, governor's mansion, theatre or shopkeeper's store. Once complete, their model becomes part of a fun 3D mining-town where each child can shoot a video clip of their attempt to move a miner through the maze.

Cyber Storytime (two sessions each day - 12 noon and 2pm)
At M.A.D.E, story time is a little bit more than sitting on the floor. The audience is invited to move around and digital technology is used to enhance the tales, with animated, home-grown illustrations appearing on the big-screen.

Self-guided Discovery Worksheet
Upon arrival, school holiday visitors can pick up a Self-guided Discovery Worksheet which challenges them to find certain objects in the exhibition. The sheets are themed and during September, they're all about the types of houses and buildings people used during gold rush times.

-Flash Twinkle Toes Silly Circus Show' Wednesday Oct 2nd, 2pm (tickets: $10)
Flash Twinkle Toes Silly Circus Show is ideal for children aged 4-12, accompanied by adults. The show features audience interaction, comedic routines and fun circus skills including diabolo, plate spinning, juggling, magic and more. In the silly circus children can enjoy watching or even become the star of the show.

There is limited seating and bookings is essential: 1800 287 113

M.A.D.E facilities include an on-site café, a playground and parklands so whist children enjoy the fun activities on offer, parents can take time out and enjoy a coffee, a stroll or the museum's many through-provoking exhibits

The Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (M.A.D.E) in Ballarat opened on May 4th 2013 to a packed crowd and has since received over 14,000 visitors.

M.A.D.E is a new style of museum where robust commentary and debate about contemporary issues is encouraged. It is an exciting and highly interactive museum on the physical site of the Eureka Stockade.  M.A.D.E commemorates the role of the Eureka Stockade in shaping our nation and offers an opportunity for all to stand on the site where young miners stood up for their rights, and contemplate our future roles and directions.

In addition to the physical museum, M.A.D.E is developing national and community education programs to further reframe the discussion on democracy, using the historic significance and spirit of Eureka to inspire a younger generation and address the changing needs of our community.
