Riverland Wine and Food Festival
The beautiful lawned banks of the Murray River will be the setting for the main event of the Riverland Wine and Food Festival this October. The weekend program, celebrating the region's rich wine and food culture, comprises three major events, which include the Berri Resort Hotel Wine and Food Festival, Nippy's Chefs of the Murray and WINE Down.
Thousands will gather on Saturday the 15th of October for the main riverfront event - an all day wine and food affair that melds 10 local wineries, a microbrewery and locally prepared and sourced menus together in an incredible atmosphere overlooking the Murray. The weekend program further encourages visitors to stay for a few days and enjoy other events including Nippy's Chefs of the Murray and WINE Down. Nippy's Chefs of the Murray is the region's premier dinner whereby local apprentice chefs work alongside an acclaimed guest chef to prepare five courses.
WINE Down is a culmination of various intimate events held all day on Sunday, encouraging visitors to experience local cellar door wine tasting and sales; and enjoy meals created by local food producers with regional produce. Event Manager Amy Martinson said with the new southern expressway the Riverland was less than three hours drive from Adelaide making the Festival the perfect weekend getaway. "With the main event of the Festival being held riverside, one of the best ways to experience the festivities is to come by houseboat for the weekend. "The program is wonderful in the sense that the three main events all offer quite different experiences," Ms Martinson said.
"We're very proud of our most precious natural attribute - the Murray River - and we want to share that as part of our rich wine and food culture."
