RENEE GEYER & SPECIAL GUEST ELLA THOMPSON
TWO GENERATIONS OF SOUL @ SANDBELT LIVE
Friday, December 11
Australia's premier soul vocalist, Renee Geyer will perform her final Melbourne show for 2009 at Sandbelt Live on Friday, December 11.
With a career spanning close to forty years, this prolific songstress has an unrivalled array of hits under her belt, and if her latest album, Renéessance is anything to go by, her vocal performance still packs an almighty punch as she breathes new life into her classics.
From the playful Cuban pop of Say I Love You to the explosive emotion of It's A Man's, Man's, Man's World, it takes a few spins of Renéessance to realise it's accompanied only by the spare keys of Bruce Haymes and Jeff Burstin's acoustic guitar. The fresh and immediate approach gave Renée new access to rarely performed classics such as Stares & Whispers. The naked arrangements of Heading In The Right Direction and If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Wanna Be Right) hone perennial Australian radio staples to their essence.
Following closely in the soul queen's footsteps is the extraordinarily talented Ella Thompson, who at the ripe age of twenty, has earned her stripes as a live performer on tour with the likes of Paul Kelly, Diesel and of course, Renee Geyer, as well as playing support to Stax legend Mavis Staples.
Don't miss what promises to be one of The Sandbelt's most unforgettable live shows for 2009.
