Rachael Finch hosted a playful kids dance fitness class with some of the Minions from Despicable Me 3.
Question: What do you love about the Despicable Me movies?
Rachael Finch: The beauty of films like the Despicable Me movies is that both adults and kids can watch it together. These films teach kids about honesty, family, and bravery. Kids might be too young to understand it but characters like the Minions help kids understand these themes. In DM3, they teach us about family and teamwork – from long lost brothers and Gru's three little girls he adopts and cares for. They all team up to help fight the supervillain, Balthazar Bratt. My daughter Violet loves the cute -unicorn' Agnes finds in Freedonia.
Question: What stands out about Despicable Me 3 in particular?
Rachael Finch: It's entertaining and easy to watch, for both adults and kids. The film is hilarious and the Minions are mischievous and adorable in this one.
Question: Can you tell us about the playful kids dance fitness class you're taking to celebrate the home entertainment release of Despicable Me 3?
Rachael Finch: Australia's childhood obesity rates are continually growing with 9 out of 10 children not getting enough exercise. Characters like the Minions are an easy way to help inspire and encourage kids to get active. The routine is so easy to follow, so anyone can do it in the comfort of their home. It was such a fun routine to come up with and features moves that even Balthazar Bratt would be jealous of. Parents can join in too!
Question: Why is dancing such a great way to get kids moving? Can you share your routine with us, so we can participate at home?
Rachael Finch: The routine is easy to follow and super fun! When you're dancing you feel like you're just having fun, you don't realise that you are exercising. For kids, it's such a playful and interactive way for them to get moving and grooving.
To get involved, head to The Viewing Lounge on Facebook or YouTube, hit play and get dancing with me, the Minions and Balthazar Bratt.
Question: Are you able to tell us about Body Of Dance?
Rachael Finch:
B.O.D is a program that encourages its participants to dance their way to health and fitness. Dancing is a great form of exercise, not only because it burns calories but it's known to release happy endorphins. B.O.D has two other elements to the wellness plan including Dine and Dream – it is a holistic approach to improving the health of participants, with nourishing, nutritious and achievable recipes and lessons on mindfulness and meditation. I'm so used to creating routines for adults so it was a nice change to create something for kids. I even got Violet to test out the Minion dance for me, she loved it!
Question: Do you have a morning routine? Can you share your rituals, with us?
Rachael Finch: I always start the day with a coffee at home while the little ones are asleep. It's always good to spend even 5 minutes out of your hectic day to spend time by yourself. Then, it's feeding time for the kids and then I get ready for the day ahead – whatever that may be!
Question: What's next, for you?
Rachael Finch: I'm currently working on the B.O.D by Finch program as we're redeveloping it with some new and exciting moves. Leading into the warmer months, we decided to revamp the current program to provide some new and challenging exercises to burn calories, build muscle and help with flexibility to feel confident this beach season. I'm also heading into a really busy period for Spring Racing with Myer and Channel 7, which comes with plenty of travel. It's important for me to listen to my body during these busier months to free the mind and balance the soul. I'm really excited to share this next chapter – watch this space!
