Dancer, drug smuggler, prisoner, saint. An explosive tale of life on the edge... with no regrets.
Andrea Mohr was an international drug smuggler who traveled the world living the high life. She mingled with celebrities, holidayed in exotic destinations and tried her hand at acting and modeling. But the merry-go-round stopped after she met high profile Melbourne lawyer Andrew Fraser, who unwittingly led to her arrest.
In Victoria's only maximum security women's prison, Mohr was detained with murderers and thieves. For five long years she was forced to confront the daily rounds of violence and intimidation, and learnt the hard way how to tough the women of the streets could be. She watched as prisoners fell prey to despair, madness and even death, and witnessed the return of those who made it out but couldn't stay clean. Amid the tragic, ruthless and forgotten, she resolved to turn her life around. After overcoming her own addictions and finally getting clean, she then drew upon her experiences to help others caught up in the tough system that had little sympathy for its prisoners.
In Pixie, Mohr reveals for the first time she gripping true story behind her arrest and prosecution for international drug smuggling. She traces how a rebellious girl drifted into the seamy side, working in nightclubs in Berlin, and how from there she entered the dark world of smuggling drugs from South America, Asia and Africa.
In Pixie, Andrea also reveals her strong belief that Andrew Fraser was wrongly convicted, and declares his harsh prison sentence to be an appalling miscarriage of justice- due in part to the systemic corruption within the Victorian police force.
Frank, compelling and insightful, Pixie is a shocking personal account of a life on the edge, and how the criminal justice system has failed society.
'...a powerful narrative of female strength shining through the male-dominated underworld of Melbourne. I have never read a book like it'- Howard Marks, author of Mr Nice.
Andrea Mohr is a passionate advocate for prisoners' rights and a member of a number of organisations that support prisoners. She has turned her hand to writing as a career and is a published cookbook author. She lives in Germany surrounded by her family and friends and has never returned to drugs since her time in Melbourne's Deer Park prison.
