Licorine, a natural and very effective soothing ingredient, has an immediate and long-lasting effect which helps calm irritated skin and visibly reduces redness. Extracted from a flower of Chinese origin, Licorine has a long-proven history in Chinese medicine of minimising reddening and irritation.

The new NIVEA Balancing Complex combines Hydramine and Isoprotectine - both plant-derived ingredients. The complex helps to strengthen the skins own resistance to external irritants and to reduce its sensitivity in the longer term.

Hydramine regulates the water content of skin cells, while Isoprotectine is a highly active antioxidant that neutralises free radicals, activates the skins own protection system and helps prevent sun allergies. It is derived from the flavonoid, 'rutin', which is extracted from the leaves and flowers of the Japanese pagoda tree. Flavonoids are natural plant-based derivatives which offer the skin optimum protection from harmful external influences.

What is sensitive skin?

The interpretation of sensitive skin is very subjective and can be understood in different ways. What is clear is that everyones skin can react sensitively to both internal and external factors. Internally, these can include stress, psychological problems, hormonal changes and diet. Recent research carried out on a test group in Europe over three consecutive days, demonstrated that the licorine content of NIVEA Visage Sensitive Balance reduced reddening and rough skin by up to 70%.
