The average student will find cause for celebration in just about anything, however few would think to look in the Term Two course outline. For the very first time, Nature Care College is offering a Diploma in Ritual and Celebrancy as part of their refreshed offer for the second half of 2005.
Marriage celebrant and lecturer Lynette Gordon will take up her post at the college in July to teach the marriage module of the course. Gordon says, "Nature Care College is one of the best colleges in the country due to their professionalism, commitment to excellence and genuine holistic and innovative approach to all they do."
The course will cover the history of ritual and tradition, beliefs and approaches to grieving and death, a marriage celebrancy workshop, funeral and general celebrancy workshop and business management for celebrants. In addition to this, students have the option of undertaking an accredited Certificate IV in Marriage Celebrancy, accredited by Nature Care College.
With the growing trend towards civil ceremonies, the demand for celebrants is rapidly increasing. According to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 41.8% of couples opted for civil services in 1992. By 2002, that figure has increased to 55% and this steady growth is tipped to continue.
Gordon says, "I do so many weddings - big ones, small ones. Some of my favourites are 'elopements'. More and more couples are choosing to have an intimate ceremony with just the two of them and perhaps another couple as witnesses."
Gordon says the best aspect of her job is "having the responsibility and privilege of joining two people together in marriage. To experience the depth of love between two people and those who love them is uplifting beyond words."
The Diploma of Ritual and Celebrancy is just one of the new courses being offered in the second term. Enthusiasts can participate in Biomagnetic Therapy and Energetic Healing, in addition to Lomi Lomi (Hawai'ian massage), Soul Care and Shamanic Healing, Yoga and Shiatsu, just to name a few.
Nature Care College will host an Open Day on April 30th to launch their new curriculum. There will be free mini-treatments and yoga classes, tours of the college and talks hosted by lecturers, current students and graduates.
