Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage returns as Ben Gates, a treasure hunter extraordinaire who discovers his great-great-grandfather, Thomas Gates, was implicated as a collaborator in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

Determined to clear his ancestor's name, Gates must follow a chain of cryptic clues and hidden mysteries that leads him on an international chase from Washington to Paris, then to London and eventually back to the White House and the President of the USA.

With the help of his acrimoniously divorced parents, played by Oscar winners Jon Voight and Hellen Mirren, as well as his friend Riley (Justin Bartha) and his estranged girlfriend Abigail (Diane Kruger), Gates pursues the infamous President's Book of Secrets, said to contain the answers to the biggest cover-ups in US history, from the truth behind Gates' grandfather, to the JFK assassination and Area 51.

But to locate the Book, Gates must plot to kidnap the only man who has access to it- the President of the US (Bruce Greenwood). Moreover, if he is to have any hope in proving his great-great-grandfathers innocence, he must find 'Cibola', the lost city of gold hidden under Mount Rushmore.
