Missy Higgins New EP & Tour Dates

MISSY HIGGINS RETURNS HOME WITH A NEW EP TO HELP SAVE THE KIMBERLEY

After well over a year of touring in North America Missy Higgins is finally returning home for some local shows. What's more these dates will coincide with a brand new EP for Australian fans only. It's entitled "More Than This" and it contains four musical postcards from her time spent Stateside.

This exclusive online release will be available on iTunes from Tuesday March 31.

Missy has confirmed that ALL royalties from the sale of the "More Than This" EP will go straight to the "Save The Kimberley" group who are working tirelessly to oppose the governments proposed industrialization of the Kimberley region in North Western Australia. Missy has a long history with the region spending many months living in Broome and penning most of the songs on her album "On A Clear Night" there. She also filmed a movie in the region late last year. The Kimberley is still one of the worlds few untouched and unspoiled places.

The EP brings together four cover versions that Missy has recorded for various purposes in the U.S. The title track "More Than This" is a reworking of the Roxy Music classic. The song was recorded for a special album which her U.S. label, Warner Bros., compiled to celebrate their 50th anniversary. That disc brings together current artists covering songs from throughout WB's illustrious history. "It's particularly intimidating attempting to cover a song that was so perfect in it's original form...I wanted to make it my 'folky own'." Missy said.

The EP also features the Cy Coleman ballad "I'm In Love Again" - written by Coleman who originally performed the song with Peggy Lee. The song will also included on a tribute album to the jazz great alongside other great female vocalists like Fiona Apple and Patti Griffin.

Track 3 is a live duet of Tom Petty's "Breakdown" that was recorded with touring buddy Brett Dennen when the pair dropped by a radio station in Seattle. Closing the EP is a cover of Patty Griffin's "Moses", a live favorite amongst fans over the years. Missy figured it made sense to release 'proper' versions - particularly to benefit this worthy cause.

"When I found out that there were plans to build a gas hub along the Kimberly Coast, I just couldn't believe it. That part of the country is so stunning, has so much important cultural history and a wildlife population that thrives like nowhere else in the world … how can anyone think it's okay to erect a gigantic dirty gas plant there? It will devastate the land and only open the door to more industrialization in the future. The chance for us to stop this is now, the sooner more Australians start talking about it, the better."

Missy is currently mid way through her first American tour for 2009; "Where I Stood" is still enjoying exceptional national airplay 12 months after it's Stateside release. The song has been a top 10 airplay hit with sales exceeding 100,000 albums and 500,000 sales on iTunes to date.
