Melbourne-based jazz/funk juggernaut Lake Minnetonka release their latest single -Out There Bout There' and announce launch show on Thursday October, 27th at The Curtin, Melbourne.
Combining hard and irrepressible beats with infectious jazz riffs and incendiary solos, Lake Minnetonka are bringing the Minneapolis sound to Melbourne - a propulsive, sexy and synth-laced funk that emerged in the late 70s and was fired into global consciousness by Prince and his purple acolytes.
Led by Keytarist and composer Adam Rudegeair (PBS FM's -Black Wax', The Bowie Project) Lake Minnetonka features David Gooey (Jude Perl) on guitar, Ann Metry (Sol Nation) on bass, Emily Shaw on drums and -AJ' Jackson (Jake Savona) on tenor sax. In addition to their own original robofunk tunes, Lake Minnetonka love to get down on classic Minneapolis joints from back in the day by the likes of Mazerati, The Family, and Morris Day and the Time!
In 2015, bandleader Adam Rudegeair, jetted over to Minneapolis for a writing and recording session with former Prince band members Dr Fink, Eric Leeds and Sonny T. Adam returned with -Clipnosis' which was released in mid 2016 along with locally recorded track -August', and this October, -Out There Bout There' the next song in the series will be released.
Taking inspiration from Prince's 1987 instrumental Jazz/Funk recordings released under the band name Madhouse, Adam Rudegeair says -Out There Bout There' 'represents an exciting and historic new synthesis: Some of the primary architects of the Minneapolis Sound lending their skills to perform new material in collaboration with members of Melbourne jazz fusion band Lake Minnetonka. It's always been a dream of mine to record with such monstrous players as Eric Leeds, Dr Fink, Sonny Thompson and Petar Janjic, and I'm sure our recent recording session in Minneapolis will be the first of many. The spirit of Prince lives on in the energy and spontaneity of these killer jams."
Since forming in 2013, Lake Minnetonka has kept busy recording between Melbourne and Minneapolis and entertaining at Melbourne's many cult venues including onstage jams with Larry Graham and Graham Central Station during their Bluesfest sideshow at the Corner Hotel and playing with Dr Fink from Prince and the Revolution.
Expect smokin' jazz, funk, and soul, as Lake Minnetonka launch -Out There Bout There' on Thursday October 27th at The Curtin joined by local soul sensation Fulton Street and Neon City Pilot with more special guests to be announced!
