bodyguard
Most of John Alberts ex-clients remain at risk. Naming those who deploy serious defensive measures would afford any enemy the option of taking that into account.
Bodyguard is meant in the professional sense - not bouncers who guard actors etc.. Real VIPs only, almost exclusively political. No-one can do the job professionally without reliable threat assessment - if anyone tells you they are a bodyguard, ask them who does their threat assessment? Normally, reliable intelligence is available only from the security services - although there is a certain amount one can do alone. Commonly, in the event of an enemy contact, the muscular giant would simply amount to a preliminary fatality.
Weapons deployed the world over were handguns, typically the Browning 9mm and S&W.357 magnum - except in the UK and Japan where no-one apart from government personnel are permitted weapons - in those countries guns would be secured by police and reclaimed on departure. Should the client be of sufficient stature then Police in those countries would provide armed protection as risk dictated. In wilder areas the ubiquitous Kalashnikov AK47 and Heckler & Koch sub-machine guns might also be deployed. Choice of weaponry would depend upon location and more importantly - threat assessment.
